As of September Andrzej Czech has joined our itemedical team as a Software Test Engineer. Andrzej will focus on improving the quality and enhance reliability of our medical software solutions developed for hospital departments equipped with patient-linked devices.
Andrzej will dive into software testing, write test protocols and programming software to conduct tests in compliance with MDR regulations. He holds himself to high standards, aiming for applications with a high percentage of test coverage. Outside of work, Andrzej enjoys mountain hiking, though the flat Dutch landscape poses a challenge and keeps him exploring the forests nearby.
Get to know Andrzej better in his welcome interview below.
Welcome or Witaj in Polish, Andrzej! What does your role as a Software Test Engineer involve?
Andrzej: “Well, right now, I am learning a lot of new things. We already have many automated test protocols being written for our medical software, the Medical Device Data Gateway (MDDG) application. My task is to adapt these existing protocols to the new technology, because the framework in which the application was built, recently changed to the Blazor framework. I am currently working on automated software tests for the MediScore user interface and MDDG tools. My next step will be writing new automated test protocols for any functionalities developed by my R&D colleagues, based on requirements and in compliance with the MDR-regulation.”
How did itemedical crossy your path, Andrzej?
“Actually a recruiter contacted me. I was not actively looking for a new job, but I was open to networking. The job offer intrigued me and the interview went well, leaving me a very good feeling about itemedical and its culture. That’s when I realized this was a good opportunity to step into the healthcare sector. I my previous role, the focus was more on innovation and less on proper testing. And I wanted to gain more experience in structured testing: learning about procedures, planning and performance testing.
The position at itemedical allows me to engage in testing and continue growing in this field. I’m really impressed by how well organized everything is with detailed and clearly defined procedures. It’s exactly what I expected and I am not disappointed. This is the in-depth, procedural testing environment I was looking for, where testing is not only a top priority but also conducted at a high quality level.”
What is the greatest challenge in your new job?
“My biggest challenge and what I am excited about, is writing complex test protocols and scripts with thorough coverage of all software features. For instance, I aim to work towards achieving 100% test coverage. Of course, that is not entirely realistic, but it’s a goal I continuously strive for. “
So, you set high standards for yourself … and is that what customers can expect from you this year?
“Absolutely. My focus will be on achieving this coverage while also writing test protocols, gaining essential field expertise and familiarizing myself with the medical terminology – but it is still biology. 😊”
Can you briefly take us through your background?
“I studied Biotechnology, specializing in plant molecular biology, in Kraków, Poland and I worked for over 15 years at Genetwister Technologies in Wageningen. I gained there extensive knowledge in biology, breeding, and molecular markers. I started as a researcher in the lab and soon transitioned to bioinformatics, extracting and analyzing sequencing data. This company is specialized in research for molecular breeding of vegetable crops, focusing on creating higher yields, disease resistance, or specific colors. The software I worked on managed enormous databases of DNA markers, comparing millions of samples to identify significant combinations for further validation in the lab. Later, I joined the R&D team, supporting users, reporting bugs during demos, and gradually learning software testing. This experience sparked my interest in structured software testing.”
What do you do in your free time, Andrzej?
“I moved to the Netherlands 15 years ago for what I thought would be a one-year experience working in a commercial environment outside of academia. But here I am, still enjoying it.
Further, I enjoy hiking, especially in the mountains, but since there aren’t any mountains nearby, I am hiking in the forests here to which I live close to one. And I also enjoy DIY projects, particularly woodworking and I like baking bread and cakes. I even have a You Tube channel about bread baking, though I have not uploaded many videos yet. 😉”
